âHarls!â Addy squeals when she sees me the next morning. Letâs just hope she doesnât notice how funny Iâm walking.
Last night was crazy intense. We couldnât seem to stop touching each other, so our little orgy happened more than once, and each and every time they took care of me afterward like I was a precious charm they had to cradle and take care of. It made me feel special.
Not only that, but Iâm feeling happier and clearer headed than I had since killing that scumbag. The darkness wasnât even trying to creep in on me today.
I know itâs only a matter of time before it comes back, but for now, Iâm actually happy again.
âAdds!â I squeal right back, and run into her as we wrap our arms around each other in a fit of giggles. âOmg I missed you!â
I pull away and look at her.
âI missed you too!â She hugs me again before pulling back. âHow was⦠you know?â she whispers, and points to the floor, and I fall into a fit of laughter.
Leave it to my best friend to not want to say Hell in public.
âUh, it was tough at first, but it was okay,â I tell her the truth.
âWas it scary?â she whispers to me again, and I snort.
âNope. Dad and Gramps made sure I never saw those parts. It was basically like living in my dream park but with a house. They made up a special corner for me.â I smile at her, and she snorts.
âAnd here I thought I was the high maintenance one.â
Before I can answer, Dad cuts in. âFrom what I hear, youâre not nearly as high maintenance as you let on.â He gives her a knowing look, and I raise an eyebrow.
âOh?â I look from her to Dad, and she shrugs.
âThe guy was being nice. I didnât want to be rude, and he taught me a lot. He was actually pretty cool for a really old dude.â
I snort, and Dad shakes his head.
âWell, Iâm glad he was able to help you,â Dad tells her.
She nods, looking very serious.
âI want to help with this, Mark. If we go to war, I want to be there.â I take a nervous look around us, but no one is close enough to be listening, and I breathe a sigh of relief.
âYou will be if it goes that far. But letâs keep that under wraps, yeah?â
She grimaces and nods, then Dad heads to grab his own lunch.
âSo, no drama? Thatâs a very different Addy than Iâm used to.â I poke her, and she gives me a sad smile.
âI grew up a lot over the summer, Harls. Came to a lot of realizations about life.â I look at her and see the tears building up.
âHey.â I pull her in for a hug. âItâs going to be okay.â I rub her back as she cries into my shoulder, the guys all leaving us to have our conversation in private.
They donât move far, just to the table over so they can still be near and protect us, and I love the fuck out of them for it.
